Thread Space

Thread Space

Thread Space was a business concept I developed with a team during QUT’s Entrepreneurship Startup Weekend. The idea centred on a single pressing issue: the disappearance of third spaces in Australia, and the rising isolation and depression that follows.

Thread Space would function as a hybrid café and maker space - somewhere people could drop in, work on personal projects using provided equipment, learn new skills, and build genuine long-term connections. We also developed an app prototype where members could track their skill growth, stay across upcoming events, and connect with the broader community. Operating on a not-for-profit model and sustained through government grants, Thread Space was envisioned as a thriving community hub.

At the end of the weekend, the team presented to a panel of industry sponsors, and walked away with first prize in the Most Impactful category. My contributions included the idea itself and logo development.

The weekend was as much a leadership experience as a creative one. Coming in with the founding idea, I found myself naturally guiding the team’s direction by facilitating decisions, keeping momentum through the time pressure, and making sure everyone’s strengths were put to good use. It reinforced my ability to lead collaboratively rather than prescriptively, and gave me confidence in steering a group toward a shared vision under real constraints.
